UConn vs Butler | College Basketball Highlights | ESPN (2026)

In a striking display of skill, UConn showcased its dominance with a 79-60 victory over Butler on December 16, 2025, marking the start of Big East play. Solo Ball was the standout performer, netting a career-high 26 points, while Tarris Reed Jr. contributed significantly with 16 points.

The bench also played a pivotal role in this triumph, with Jayden Ross contributing 13 points and grabbing eight rebounds, and Braylon Mullins adding another 12 points. The Huskies (now 11-1, 1-0) were formidable on defense, limiting Butler to a staggering 30 points less than their usual season average, as the Bulldogs entered the game boasting a 49% shooting percentage.

Butler's Drayton Jones managed to score 13 points total, with nine coming in the first half. Both Azavier Robinson and Evan Haywood finished the game with 10 points each. This win marked UConn's impressive 12th consecutive victory over Butler, following their initial confrontation in the 2011 NCAA championship.

The game started off promising for Butler, who converted five of their first eight shooting attempts. However, the situation took a turn as they struggled to find their rhythm, missing 20 of their next 23 shots. A late putback by Michael Ajayi right before halftime finally gave Butler something to celebrate.

In the second half, Butler faced a challenging start, failing to make any of their first 11 shots until Haywood finally connected with a corner three-pointer with just under 14 minutes remaining. Prior to this breakthrough, Butler's shooting percentage had plummeted to 21%.

Despite this rough patch, the Bulldogs rebounded momentarily, hitting five out of seven attempts, including three three-pointers, narrowing UConn’s lead. However, a crucial moment came when Mullins secured a tough rebound and quickly passed to Silas Demary Jr., who assisted Ross for a dunk, reinforcing UConn’s control over the game. Ross continued to shine by assisting Reed’s dunk shortly after.

One of the game's most thrilling highlights occurred when Ross leaped for an offensive rebound, delivering a powerful slam dunk following a missed shot by Ball, which electrified the crowd.

Butler initially surged ahead with a quick 9-0 run, establishing a seven-point lead. Yet, UConn responded decisively, with Mullins, Ball, and Reed combining to score 15 points during a dominant 17-3 run that shifted the momentum back in their favor.

Looking ahead, Butler is set to face Northwestern in the Indy Classic on Saturday, while UConn will travel to DePaul on Sunday.
