Rakesh Bedi is creating a stir with his turn in Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar, revealing that his on-screen persona, Jameel Jamali, draws heavily from real Pakistani politicians. He meticulously studied their speech cadences, tones, diction, and body language to capture the charm and character of the role. Bedi described the challenge as substantial, stressing that an actor must feel confident and at ease to offer a natural, convincing performance.
The veteran actor has recently gained attention for his work in the Ranveer Singh-led film Dhurandhar. In a recent interview, the Chasme Badoor star discussed how he prepared to embody Jameel Jamali, explaining that the character was crafted by blending traits from multiple Pakistani political figures rather than imitating a single person.
In an interview with IANS, Bedi elaborated that Jameel Jamali was created using real-life inspirations. He noted that many Pakistani politicians served as direct references for the character, with careful observation of their speech patterns, mannerisms, and overall personality to bring authenticity to the screen. He added, “The character is founded on real incidents and shaped by merging traits from several leaders. I studied their speeches, tones, diction, and body language—not just one leader. The visual look was designed by Aditya Sir in collaboration with the prosthetics team. I concentrated on cadence, voice, movements, and the subtle nuances that lend the figure credibility.” He also emphasized that this role pushed him as an actor, which contributed to his enthusiastic agreement to take it on.
Bedi also opened up about the behind-the-scenes struggles during production. He explained that the main hurdles occurred during the actual filming of scenes, focusing on how to execute sequences effectively on set. He offered a practical reminder for fellow performers: the goal is to stay relaxed and not let the heavy burden of the character disrupt flow. Staying at ease, he said, is essential for delivering a natural performance.
