The MLB offseason is heating up, and the Cincinnati Reds are in the thick of it! The annual Winter Meetings, a pivotal week for free agency, have just begun, and already, we're seeing some major moves.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic dropped a bombshell: the Pittsburgh Pirates have made an offer to free-agent designated hitter Kyle Schwarber.
Rosenthal reported that the Pirates offered Schwarber a four-year deal, a move that is quite aggressive for the team. It is almost certainly for more than $100 million. For context, their biggest free-agent signing was pitcher Francisco Liriano, who signed a three-year, $39 million deal back in December 2014.
But here's where it gets interesting: the Cincinnati Reds, Schwarber's hometown team, are also vying for his signature. Schwarber is coming off a stellar season in 2025, boasting a .240/.365/.563 slash line with an impressive 81 extra-base hits, including a league-leading 56 home runs in the National League.
Other teams in the mix for the slugger include the Red Sox, Mets, Orioles, and Phillies.
