Imagine waking up to a power outage on Christmas Day, and then finding out that the lights might not come back on for days. That's the frustrating reality for residents in a Monterey neighborhood, as PG&E delays power restoration until December 29th.
"Oh God, not again," exclaimed Joanne White, capturing the sentiment of many in the community. The power outage has turned the holidays into a dreary affair, with no Christmas lights, no hot showers, and no way to charge essential devices.
Bonnie Thompson, visiting her mom for the holidays, shared her disappointment: "It's just been a sad Christmas. We can't even enjoy the simple pleasures like Christmas lights or a warm shower."
The impact extends beyond the homes. In Carmel, Flaherty's Seafood Grill had to close its doors due to the outage, but thankfully reopened on Saturday. The restaurant owner, Ken Spilfogel, expressed gratitude for his amazing crew and the support of other businesses during this challenging time.
"Only a handful of restaurants, like Edwin's, managed to stay open with the help of generators. We're grateful for their support and the sense of community it fosters," Spilfogel said.
Jakub Kacprzynski, the owner of Edwin's, emphasized their commitment to helping neighboring businesses: "We believe in supporting each other. When we can keep our doors open, we ensure others can too. That's why we shared our generators with a few businesses."
Back in the Monterey neighborhood, residents continue to wait patiently, hoping for an early resolution.
"It's frustrating that certain areas seem to experience frequent outages. PG&E needs to step up and address these issues. We deserve better," a resident shared.
The power outage has certainly put a damper on the holiday spirit, but the community's resilience and support for one another offer a glimmer of hope.
