Arrowhead CEO Addresses Fan Concerns Over Justin Lin's Gaming Background for Helldivers Movie
The CEO of Arrowhead, developer of Helldivers 2, has responded to fan worries about the choice of Justin Lin as the director of the Helldivers movie. Some fans are concerned that Lin's lack of gaming experience might hinder his understanding of the game's essence, potentially affecting the movie's vibe. However, CEO Shams Jorjani expressed confidence in Lin's abilities, citing his successful work on the Star Trek movie.
Jorjani's response comes after a fan asked if he could direct the movie himself, to which Jorjani replied, "Let Justin Lin work his magic." When a fan raised concerns about Lin's gaming background, Jorjani stated, "I trust Justin. He did a great job on the Star Trek movie."
Arrowhead's stance is similar to Amazon's approach with the God of War adaptation, where director Ronald D. Moore, a non-gamer, is helming the project. In contrast, the Elden Ring movie is being directed by Alex Garland, a self-proclaimed fan of the game, ensuring a deeper understanding of the source material.
Despite the concerns, Arrowhead's CCO, Johan Pilestedt, believes the studio should not have the final say in the movie's direction, as they lack film-making expertise. This perspective highlights the industry's trend of hiring non-gamers to adapt video games into movies, sparking debates among fans about the potential impact on the game's essence.
