Bold takeaway: threats force schools to close, jeopardizing student safety and disrupting families, while authorities investigate and navigate the balance between caution and disruption.
District 196, which serves Rosemount, Apple Valley, Eagan, and nearby communities, announced Tuesday that all of its high schools would be closed after receiving a notice of potential threats. The district stated that this decision was made out of an abundance of caution, prioritizing safety while law enforcement conducts a full investigation. Officials noted that any students already at school would be dismissed in an orderly manner, and buses would be provided to take them home.
The four high schools under District 196 include Apple Valley, Eagan, Rosemount, and Eastview, plus the magnet School of Environmental Studies, which serves juniors and seniors.
In a separate precautionary measure, two high schools in District 191—Burnsville High School and Burnsville Alternative High School—also closed for the day. Other schools in the district remained on a normal schedule.
Apple Valley police reported that a social media threat was identified around 6:45 p.m. on Monday, and authorities are working to identify those responsible.
