Cockroach Infested Home Leads to Arrest in Florida | Child Neglect & Elderly Abuse (2026)

A shocking case of neglect has emerged in Central Florida, where a couple's home, infested with cockroaches and filth, has led to their arrest. But what's even more disturbing is the discovery of an infant and an elderly man living in these appalling conditions.

'Deplorable' Living Conditions:
In a recent welfare check, authorities in Flagler County were met with a grim scene. The home, located in Palm Coast, was described as 'deplorable' by the Flagler County Sheriff's Office. The investigation began when a member of the Flagler County Fire Rescue requested assistance after helping an elderly gentleman in the area.

Upon entering the house, investigators were confronted with a strong odor of urine, spoiled food, and feces. But the situation took a more distressing turn when they spotted live cockroaches, droppings, and garbage everywhere. And this is where it gets truly heartbreaking...

Infant and Elderly Man at Risk:
While speaking with Tashaye Brown, 31, detectives made a horrifying discovery. An infant was found inside a Pack 'n Play, surrounded by cockroaches. Brown admitted to knowing about the infestation but claimed she couldn't afford professional help. Instead, she resorted to a disturbing method of insect control, shaking the insects out of the Pack 'n Play and then spraying insecticide around it.

The investigation also revealed the plight of an elderly man, who was unable to care for himself and had recently returned from the hospital. He was left without proper medical assistance, with insects even emerging from his socks. Brown and her fiancé, Nikolas Cummings, 32, had moved in to care for him, but the living conditions suggest a severe lack of care.

Arrests and Charges:
After a thorough investigation, detectives determined that Brown and Cummings were solely responsible for the care of both the infant and the elderly man. They were arrested and charged with child neglect and neglect of an elderly/disabled adult, respectively. The couple is now being held on a $15,000 bond.

Sheriff Rick Staly of Flagler County strongly condemned the couple's disregard for hygiene and the well-being of their family members. He emphasized that the living conditions were unacceptable, especially for a toddler and an elderly person with medical issues.

But here's where it gets controversial: Were the living conditions a result of financial constraints, as Brown claimed, or was it a case of sheer negligence? Could more have been done to support this family in crisis? These questions are sure to spark debate. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
