Qualifications: The Residential Coordinator must have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized and accredited college or university and at least three years of experience as a Residential Specialist, or in a related psychiatric rehabilitation position. He/she must also possess at least one year of supervisory experience; have experience in and knowledge of medication monitoring. This individual must have a valid Maryland driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to GUIDE at the agency’s sole discretion.
The Residential Coordinator reports directly to the Program Director.
Duties: The Residential Coordinator of the Independence Program in Montgomery County will be responsible for the day-to-day residential staff supervision and monitoring, and direct services to the consumers. The Residential Coordinator will be responsible for conducting his/her job in conformity with the Policies and Procedures of the GUIDE Independence Program, as well as all relevant state and county regulations, and recognized professional ethical standards.
Specific duties shall include, but are not limited to:
Supervising the implementation of all scheduled activities and individual client appointments; arranging transportation for consumers, as needed. Overseeing residential staff members’ completion of documentation, e.g., Contact Notes, Daily Log entrees, Verification of Service Forms, Visitation Log, AA/NA attendance records, etc. Reviewing contact notes for accuracy and compliance to Medical Assistance and COMAR regulations; reviewing entries marked as billable to ensure all elements necessary to comply with billing requirements are included; tallying of all contact hours and submitting these tallies to the Billing Coordinator. Disbursing residents’ weekly food allowance and maintaining food allowance tracking sheets. Collecting and verifying time sheets for all residential staff; completing and submitting Payroll Transmittal Sheets and time sheets to the Business Office for all residential and rehabilitation staff. Purchasing and/or ordering supplies for staff office. Purchasing supplies for residents, as needed; overseeing the purchase of appliances and other equipment type furnishings for the homes and maintaining all point of sale purchases and warranties for all appliances and furnishings. Monitoring the apartments for cleanliness, maintenance needs, safety, and furnishings and reporting necessary issues to the Program Director. Overseeing the residential needs of all Program consumers, ensuring that all residents live in a supportive environment in which they can learn the skills, they need to function independently; meeting with consumers individually or in groups to address residential concerns. Counseling and otherwise assisting residents with challenges of daily living. Representing the Program to outside agencies, including Core Service Agencies. Attending meetings or trainings, as necessary. Coordinating the completion of all fire drills. Ensuring that all random drug screenings are completed. Collecting and tallying end of the month site report. Carrying a pager or cell phone at all times, responding to pages from staff, instructing staff as to how to respond to the situation at hand, or contacting the Second On-Call as necessary, according to the protocol outlined in the Policy and Procedures Manual. Volunteer Maryland Coordinator
at the GUIDE Program (FULL-TIME) PURPOSE AND SCOPE: The Volunteer Maryland Coordinator (VMC) will work with the GUIDE Program to recruit and manage volunteers to tutor individuals in the Therapeutic Group Homes (TGH) and the Transitional Age Youth Program (TAY), while also recruiting volunteers that will help facilitate leisure and cultural activities across programs. The VMC will also work to recruit volunteers who will assist GUIDE Independence Consumers with nutritional education and guidance. In all the VMC will work to recruit 28 volunteers who will commit to 2 hrs of volunteering a week. The goal is to have volunteers serve 56 hours of volunteering per week.
This is an 11 month, full-time (40 hours/week) position as a member of the Volunteer Maryland (VM) AmeriCorps program serving at The GUIDE Program. Volunteer Maryland Coordinators (VMCs) are responsible for developing and implementing a volunteer program as agreed to in the VM site partnership negotiations that occurred in spring, 2010. The VMC service year will begin on September 15, 2010 and conclude on August 2, 2011.
BENEFITS Full-time VMCs receive a living stipend of $13,000, an education award of $5,350, and health insurance if they are not already covered. They may also qualify for a child care allowance. Other benefits include student loan deferment, professional training, valuable networking opportunities, working with a dedicated team of AmeriCorps members and staff, and making a real difference in a local community.
DUTIES:
SELECTION PROCESS: To participate in Volunteer Maryland, applicants must submit a written application. Staff will review the application, with special emphasis placed on the writing sample, invite the applicant to interview if appropriate, conduct two reference checks, and complete a criminal background investigation. The candidate will also go through any screenings required by the GUIDE Program.
ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS: To serve in AmeriCorps, VMCs must be at least 17 years of age; have a high school diploma or GED; and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien. Documentation of age, education, and citizenship are due on the first day of the service year.
SKILLS AND ATTITUDES NECESSARY:
ORIENTATION AND TRAINING: Volunteer Maryland provides approximately 20 days of training in program development, volunteer management, marketing, communication, and leadership skills. Training is held the first two weeks of the service year, with monthly training days throughout the rest of the year. Additional training opportunities are also available through AmeriCorps and the Service Site. The Site Supervisor provides orientation to the VM Coordinator’s local placement site.
SUPERVISION AND EVALUATION: The Service Site Supervisor provides day-to-day supervision. The Site Supervisor will evaluate performance in accordance with the agency’s policies. In addition, Volunteer Maryland’s Director provides overall supervision to all VM Coordinators, and evaluates performance at mid-year and at the end of the year.
HOURS: Full-time AmeriCorps members are required to serve approximately 40 hours each week. At the GUIDE Program , the office hours will be 9:00 am -5:30 pm, Monday - Friday; evening and weekend work will be required from time to time. Volunteer Maryland training days are 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
LOCATION: The VMC’s office will be located at 8643 Cherry Lane, Laurel, MD 20707; VM training locations will vary.
