Clinical Coordinator (Full-Time)

GUIDE, a non profit, historical provider of residential youth care and treatment programs in the Washington, D.C. / Baltimore, MD region operates, among other services, various residential programs including community-based group homes.  Youth are typically referred to these programs by state child welfare and juvenile justice authorities as well as local management boards and service coordination organizations. Youth who are referred to these programs often present an array of behavioral and adjustment problems that may include substance abuse, delinquency, emotional and psychiatric disorders, educational deficits, social, and family problems.  Currently GUIDE is seeking to fill a Clinical Coordinator position for its Baltimore Therapeutic Group Home.

 

This is a full-time position for a licensed mental health professional.  While license-eligible individuals may be interviewed, candidates must possess at least a LGSW or LGPC in Maryland before starting. Successful candidates will provide clinical services to adolescents aged 13-18 who are emotionally and behaviorally challenged, and work as part of a dedicated and caring interdisciplinary team in a supportive work environment.  This is a great opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of troubled and at-risk youth.  Duties will include providing individual, group and family therapy, participating in admission screening, discharge planning, and individual treatment plan (ITP) development in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team, and overseeing the implementation of the ITP by residential staff.  The Therapists offer clinical consultation to the program, as well as training in clinical issues to group home staff. He/she will provide linkages to community resources, advocate for youths’ educational needs, and participate in creative program development and revision. The Therapists also serve as Assistant Program Directors, assuming administrative duties in the absence of the Program Director, and as otherwise needed.

 

Experience working with emotionally and behaviorally challenged adolescents is required. A good driving record is also required. Clinical supervision by senior staff (who are approved to provide supervision toward licensure) is available. Flexible schedule, with some evening hours required. COUNSELOR/THERAPISTS/LICENSED MENTAL HEALTH
PROFESSIONALS
(FULL & PART-TIME)

Provide counseling, psychotherapy, and/or case management in a variety of settings (residential, nonresidential, clinic) and to a variety of client populations including (at risk youth and families, juvenile delinquents, mentally ill adults and youth, substance abusers). Most clinical services are provided from a cognitive and behavioral perspective and often require the use of non-traditional, assertive, and systems oriented work. Some positions require specialized training, licensure, and/or experience, e.g., in drug and alcohol treatment settings. The work typically requires some availability for evenings and/or weekend times as well as daytime availability. Clinicians are utilized in GUIDE projects located throughout the Washington/Baltimore metropolitan region. The positions most typically require a Master's degree and licensure as a mental health practitioner (LGSW, LGPC, LCSW-C, LCPC). Compensation may be by the hour or by salary and is competitive based on experience and previous training. Prior and existing vendorship status with managed care organizations and the Maryland Health Choice program is a plus.

Licensed Mental Health Professional-(Family Intervention Specialist for Juvenile Justice in Prince George's County, Maryland- Part Time)
 

Position Summary:  GUIDE is seeking to fill a part-time (13 to 16 hours per week) position for a licensed mental health professional to work as a Family Intervention Specialist (FIS) within the Aftercare Unit of the Department of Juvenile Services in Largo, Maryland.  The part-time worker will supplement, and work with, two full-time FIS workers who work in the unit as well.  FIS workers provide psychosocial assessments and treatment planning; individual, group, and family counseling/therapy; crisis intervention; case consultation; outreach; and referral.  FIS workers appreciate the value of aggressive outreach and community availability, and provide services in client homes and other community settings, as well as in a regular office venue.  We have some flexibility as to the work schedule, and will work with the availability of the worker.  We are in need, however, of someone able to consistently conduct groups on one or two evenings per week.  If available, work hours may also include some weekend time.  Some day-time hours will be helpful for supervision and team consultation. Clinical supervision is provided as part of the position.

 

Qualifications & Required Credentials:  FIS personnel must be licensed mental health professionals in Maryland (i.e., LGSW, LCSW, LCSW-C, LGPC or LCPC). Preferably the worker will possess a minimum of two years of experience providing services to delinquent and/or delinquent-prone children who evidence disorders of conduct, opposition, ADHD, and other mental health problems often associated with this population.    The worker should be skilled particularly in areas of family assessment, group and individual counseling, and case management, with a good understanding of community resources.  An understanding of particular individual and family issues associated with the abuse of alcohol and other drugs will be helpful. Good communication skills are a requirement – verbal and written.  Use of personal automobile in the job is required (with mileage reimbursement), and FIS workers must possess a valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and a safe driving record in order to be employed.

RESIDENTIAL SPECIALIST - TGH 
(F/T) Residential Counselor position available in a Therapeutic Group Home in Ft. RESIDENTIAL SPECIALIST (FULL & PART-TIME)
Provide direct services to mentally ill adults or transitional age (18 to 24 years) youth, typically in residential settings including group homes and independent living apartments. Duties involve providing psychiatric rehabilitation services; medication monitoring; support to daily living activities; assistance in transportation; and assisting in recreational and cultural activities. Maturity and an enjoyment in working with adult consumers of the public mental health system is a requirement. Available shifts may include evening, overnight, daytime or weekend shifts. Residential Specialists are utilized in programs located in Prince George's and Montgomery Counties as well as Baltimore City. The position typically requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Compensation may be by the hour or in some instances by salary and is competitive based on experience and previous training.

Volunteer Maryland Coordinator (at GUIDE Program, Inc.)
 

Purpose and Scope:  The Volunteer Maryland Coordinator (VMC) will work with the GUIDE Program to recruit and manage volunteers for several programs, while also developing a centralized system for recruiting and screening volunteers.  The VMC will recruit volunteers to tutor for individuals in the Therapeutic Group Homes (TGH) and the Transitional Age Youth Program (TAY), while also recruiting volunteers that will help facilitate leisure and cultural activities across programs.  The VMC will also work to recruit volunteers who will assist GUIDE Independence Consumers with nutritional education and guidance.  In all the VMC will work to recruit 28 new volunteers.

 

This is an 11 month, full-time (40 hours/week) position as a member of the Volunteer Maryland (VM) AmeriCorps program serving at the GUIDE Program; Volunteer Maryland Coordinators (VMCs) are responsible for developing and implementing a volunteer program as agreed to in the VM site partnership negotiations that occurred in spring, 2009.  The VMC service year will begin on September 16, 2009 and conclude on August 3, 2010.

 

Benefits:  Full-time VMCs receive a living stipend of $13,000, an education award of $4,725, and health insurance if they are not already covered.  They may also qualify for a child care allowance.  Other benefits include student loan deferment, professional training, valuable networking opportunities, working with a dedicated team of AmeriCorps members and staff, and making a real difference in a local community.  

 

Duties: 

  • Develop a written work plan and timeline for implementation.

  • Develop program materials such as a policy and procedure manual, descriptions, promotional fliers or brochures, and screening, training, and evaluation tools.  The VMC will also help revise volunteer position descriptions as needed,.

  • Recruit volunteers.  Outreach methods may include:  presentations to faith, business, and/or community groups; staffing information booths at community events; colleges and universities, and utilizing the media.  

  • Screen volunteers as necessary; procedures might include interviews, reference checks, and criminal background checks.  The VMC will work with site to assure all programs are in compliance.

  • Revise/update and facilitate orientation and training for volunteers.

  • Supervise volunteers; develop and implement recognition activities for volunteers such as special events, awards, gifts, etc.

  •  Maintain accurate records of volunteer participation.  

  • Evaluate progress made in achieving the program’s goals; report on progress in statistical and narrative reports for Volunteer Maryland.

  • Develop community partnerships to support the volunteer program.

  • Perform direct community service each week (up to four hours each week).

  • Serve as public ambassador for the Service Site, Volunteer Maryland, and AmeriCorps.

  • Participate in VM and AmeriCorps training, service projects, and other activities.

  • VMCs may be assigned other volunteer program duties during the course of the service year by the Service Site Supervisor.

 

Selection Process:  To participate in Volunteer Maryland, applicants must submit a written application.  Staff will review the application, with special emphasis placed on the writing sample, invite the applicant to interview if appropriate, conduct two reference checks, and complete a criminal background investigation.  The candidate will also go through any screenings required by the GUIDE Program. 

 

 Enrollment Requirements:  To serve in AmeriCorps, VMCs must be at least 17 years of age; have a high school diploma or GED; and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien.  Documentation of age, education, and citizenship are due on the first day of the service year. 

 

Skills and Attitudes Necessary: 

  • Skilled at taking initiative, problem solving, and working independently, to be able to develop and implement a volunteer program.

  • Sensitivity for individuals sealing with intellectual and emotional disabilities.

  • Skilled at building interpersonal relationships, to work effectively as part of a team (at the Service Site and with his/her class of VMCs), and to manage volunteers.

  • Strong verbal skills, to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and community groups.

  • Skilled at written communication, to develop program materials and reports.

  • Committed to the concept of national service and to making a difference in his/her community.

  • Good computer skills, to be able to produce program materials and track volunteer hours.

  • Have own, or have access to, transportation to and from VM trainings, events, and Service Site-related activities.

  • Able to respond to organizational change productively and maintain positive attitude.   

 

Orientation and Training:  Volunteer Maryland provides approximately 20 days of training in program development, volunteer management, marketing, communication, and leadership skills.  Training is held the first two weeks of the service year, with monthly training days throughout the rest of the year.  Additional training opportunities are also available through AmeriCorps and the Service Site.  The Site Supervisor provides orientation to the VM Coordinator’s local placement site.

 

Supervision and Evaluation:  The Service Site Supervisor provides day-to-day supervision.  The Site Supervisor will evaluate performance in accordance with the agency’s policies.  In addition, Volunteer Maryland’s Director provides overall supervision to all VM Coordinators, and evaluates performance at mid-year and at the end of the year.

 

Hours:  Full-time AmeriCorps members are required to serve approximately 40 hours each week.  At the GUIDE Program , the office hours will be 9 -5:30, Monday - Friday; evening and weekend work will be required from time to time.  Volunteer Maryland training days are 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

YSC Mental Health Counselor

 

Qualifications:

The YSC Youth & Family Counselor will possess a Master’s degree in a human service field and possess a minimum graduate level license (LGSW, LGSC, LGMFT). He/She must have prior experience working with youth/ families (internship experience considered). This position requires the employee to have reliable means of transportation.  

 

Skills include: bilingual language skills (English/ Spanish), an independent & flexible work style, and a team player attitude. He/she must have a desire to work in community-based settings.

 

The YSC Youth & Family Counselor will report directly to the Director of Community-Based Prevention & Early Intervention Services.

 

Clinical Duties:

  1. Completes mental health and/or substance abuse assessments of children ages 5-18

  2. Provides individual and family counseling

  3. Maintains a caseload of individual/family clients.

  4. Follows up on referrals and provides case consultation

  5. Leads psycho-educational groups in school or community-based settings on an “as needed” basis

  6. Consults with parents, school staff, and/or medical providers regarding child’s progress

  7. Crisis intervention

  8. Makes referrals for individual/family treatment (for those with access to outside resources)

  9. Attends school and parent meetings (EMT, ARD, suspension, etc.) as indicated

  10. Facilitates SHARP Groups on an “as needed” basis.

  11. Facilitates Parent Education groups

  12. Conducts community outreach via focus groups/workshops/presentations, participation in community committees/workgroups, and outreach fairs

  13. Supervises interns and/or group co-leaders as appropriate and/or assigned

 

Administrative Duties:

  1. Maintains client charts (to include all contacts, service plans, intake evaluations, termination summaries, etc.)

  2. Collects fees from sliding scale clients

  3. Compiles weekly staff record/statistics

  4. Attends supervision and staff meetings

  5. Attends GUIDE trainings and retreat

  6. Staffs a minimum of at least two weekend outreach booth shifts per year

  7. Attends collaboration meetings and work groups when requested

 

GUIDE Program, Inc. Employment Requirements:

  1. The position requires a criminal justice background record check supported by required fingerprinting that will be conducted through the State of Maryland Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) and the FBI.

  2. The position requires a driving record check
